Introduction and history:
Chadormalu mine was identified in 1940 by an Iranian engineer with the name of Mr. Sobhani under the supervision of a German geologist named Komel. Preliminary geological research was done during the years 1963-64 by digging exploratory tunnels. General explorations in the region and aerial magnetometry, which had started in 1968 in an area of 40,000 square kilometers, led to the recording of magnetic anomalies in the entire Bafgh Saghand and Zarand regions of Kerman. Additional discoveries were made in 1973-1978. After the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Chadormaloo mines were considered as an independent project. In 1983, negotiations for further studies and detailed design with the Swedish company LKAB began, but did lead into success. In 1986, the German consulting engineers of E.B.E company were selected for preliminary studies and detailed design and the engineering contract of phase one in 1986 and phases 2 and 3 in 1990 was signed between the National Iranian Steel Company and the aforementioned consulting engineers. After conducting phase 1 studies, the consultant, with the approval of the National Iranian Steel Company, selected the Chadormaloo iron ore processing method through weak field separator, strong field magnetic separator, hematite flotation to reduce phosphorus and apatite recovery (phosphorus concentrate) and detailed design. They started based on this method. In parallel with the mentioned engineering activities, the license to start the executive operation was issued in 1989 by the then Program and Budget Organization and the plan was implemented.
Geographical location of the mine:
Chadormalu iron ore mine is located in the heart of the central desert of Iran, on the northern slope of the gray mountains of Chah Mohammad in the southern margin of Saghand salt field, 180 km northeast of Yazd and 300 km south of Tabas city. Due to the geographical location of the desert, Chadormaloo has a dry and cold climate in winter and hot in summer. The amount of cold in winter nights sometimes reaches 16 degrees below zero and the temperature in summer rises up to 45 degrees. The wind speed has reached 90 kilometers per hour, which causes sandstorms.
Company products and consumers:
The main products of the company are concentrate, granulated iron ore (coarse and fine grain) and apatite concentrate. Consumers of iron ore products are steel complexes, which produce steel products by direct reduction method. Iron ore is the main raw material required in the steel industry. According to the consumers of iron ore product, steel complexes, which produce steel products by direct reduction method. Iron ore is the main raw material required in the steel industry. Therefore, one of the important economic advantages in the production of steel in any country is the use of domestic iron ore. In Iran, steel mills, especially Mobarakeh Steel and Isfahan Steel, use this advantage. Using domestic iron ore, according to the existing considerations, in addition to foreign exchange savings, provides the ground for a major reduction in the price of steel products in these two units.
